ETIAS from late 2026 — travel authorization for 20 euro. Who needs it?
Table of contents
Who will ETIAS cover?
In the fourth quarter of 2026, ETIAS — the European Travel Information and Authorisation System — is set to launch. It will cover citizens of 59 visa-exempt countries and territories — including Ukraine, Georgia and the UK — travelling to 30 European countries for stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period.
Cost and validity
The fee is EUR 20 (raised by the European Commission in July 2025 from the planned EUR 7). The authorization will be valid for 3 years or until the passport expires. Travellers under 18 and over 70 are exempt from the fee.
Transition period and exemptions
After launch, a transition period of at least 6 months is planned, during which the authorization will be optional. ETIAS does not apply to holders of residence cards and long-term visas — people with settled status in Poland travel without it.
